Behrouz Boochani discusses his book No Friend but the Mountains and Australia’s border mentality.

Behrouz Boochani is a Kurdish writer, journalist, and film-maker. He was a prisoner on Manus Islands (PNG) from 2013-2017. His book No Friends but the Mountains (Picador, 2018) is celebrated as an act of political resistance, and has won numerous literary prizes.

With Iranian film-maker Arash Kamali Sarvestani he co-directed the documentary ‘Chauka, Please Tell Us the Time’. Along with Omid Tofighian, he continues to work on several theatre and writing projects. An anthology of Boochani’s journalism and writing, along with scholarly commentary edited by Claire Loughnan, will be published by Bloomsbury in 2022.
